Evelyn N.A. Twum-Gyamrah, MCE, Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly

The Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly has refuted reports it is plotting the removal of its Chief Executive Officer Evelyn N.A. Twum-Gyamrah from office.

A publication suggested that Madam Twum-Gyamrah had engaged in some corrupt practices triggering a decision by the Assembly Members, to pass a vote of no confidence in her.

The members were said to have described the situation as a “leadership crisis” and subsequently collected signatures from colleagues for the MCE’s removal. The publication further stated that 17 Assemblymen, including the Presiding Member, have signed the resolution and declared May 21, 2019 as the day to oust her.

But Derock Laryea, Presiding Member of Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly says the report is false.

“Nowhere had the Assembly Members accused the Hon. MCE of corruption and incompetence,” he said in a statement.

“The Hon. MCE has a cordial and friendly relationship with all the Assembly Members and she fully cooperates with them in the development of the Assembly. There are some challenges confronting the Assembly, just as we have in any other Assembly or Institutions but collectively, we (MCE, Assembly Members and Management) are tackling those issues.

“Secondly, I would like to put on record that the intention behind we appending our signature was not to demand the removal of the MCE. We have intended to show to the MCE the overwhelming support of Assembly Members who are demanding payment of our allowances on or before the 14th May, 2019.”

It added: “We should also know that some of the Assembly Members are no more coming back to the Assembly and others are also going for re-election in their various Electoral Areas. We therefore, found it prudent to demand the allowances now, before our term of office expires. However, some of our Members who had copies of the signed document connived and wrote that front page document asking for the removal of the MCE without the knowledge of the majority of us. This is clearly an act of bad faith and deceit. We totally condemn this act.

“As we write this rejoinder, yesterday, the Municipal Finance Officer (MFO) paid our outstanding Allowances to the satisfaction of Members. The Assembly is calm now and we are happy too.”
