1. FACELESS MODELS
Models in knitted facemasks paraded down the runway at the Chulaap Autumn/Winter show at SA Menswear Week. Designer Chu Suwannapha told Sunday Times the idea behind these quirky accessories was “to draw attention to the prints and the outfits instead of the models’ expressions”. His strategy backfired somewhat – although the clothes were striking, it was the masks that became a major talking point.
2. FAST FOOD AND FASHION COLLIDE
Designer Gert-Johan Coetzee created a buzz when he revealed his collaboration with McDonald’s in celebration of the Big Mac’s 50th birthday at SA Fashion Week. With separates in the brand’s signature red and yellow, and tees emblazoned with the golden arches, the collection was not to everyone’s taste. That said, actress Nomzamo Mbatha’s impromptu dance on the runway as she closed the show was a real crowd-pleaser.
