Moms, could your lifestyle be causing your child to gain weight?

New European research has found that a mother’s lifestyle habits and weight fluctuations can also affect the weight of her children, however fathers seems to have little influence in this regard.

Carried out by researchers at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway, the study looked at 4,424 children and parents and followed them for a period of 11 years.

During this time the researchers recorded parents’ changes in weight and physical activity and children’s weight as measured by body mass index (BMI).

The findings, published in the BMJ Open, showed that a mother’s weight and physical activity levels also affect her children’s, with the team finding that weight loss of two to six kilograms was significantly associated with lower BMI in children.
